Voyage Baltimore- Exploring Life and Business with Erin Lyman
Nov. 8, 2022. I work with two different types of clients. I work with people changing careers, providing career coaching and resume/cover letter writing. I also provide interview prep. In addition, I work with rising high school seniors. I provide coaching and essay editing as well as interview prep. Both of these needs have become quite elevated in the wake of the pandemic. A lot of my career-pivoting clients have realized that they don’t want to continue doing the same thing day after day. They are ready for something new and rewarding. And in terms of college applications–more than 80% of colleges are now test (SAT) optional. That means that the college essay is much more heavily-weighted in the application process. Parents used to hire someone for test-prep, now they are hiring me to coach their child on how to write the college essays. Working with both career-pivoters and college-bound students is incredibly rewarding as I see a great transformation as I work with them. And getting the “I got the job!” or “I got into my dream school!” emails makes it that much better. What sets me apart from others is my innate ability to connect with people on a personal level as well as many years in HR and management. I provide one-on-one, personalized coaching. You can’t get that from a Google template or software. (Full article can be found here )

New Year Business Bootcamp Aimed at Promoting Local Businesses
Business owners in Harford County, Maryland recently had the opportunity to participate in the New Year Business Bootcamp, presented by Erin’s Edits and The Farmhouse Creative. How to identify their ideal customer, online marketing strategies, and creating a strategic social media plan were among just a few of the things participants learned. The workshop was hands-on, allowing business leaders to put into practice the skills they were acquiring. “There is a lot to be said for the power of a group. We had business leaders from many different industries, putting their heads together to create outstanding ways to effectively communicate what their business has to offer,” said Erin Lyman, owner of Erin’s Edits. “For many businesses, social media marketing is overwhelming and time-consuming. Our workshop participants leave with all of the tools they need to create a simple, smart, and effective social media strategy,” said Molly Balint, owner of The Farmhouse Creative.
Workshop participants were from a wide range of industries including Main Street shops, doctors’ offices, artists, non-profits, florists, government, and farmers. Kate Dallam, owner of Broom’s Bloom Dairy, said, “The workshop helped me to be more effective in my social media marketing. It helped me to focus my business and really understand my customers’ needs.”
The New Year Business Bootcamp was held at Towson University in Northeastern Maryland, on the grounds of Harford Community College. The state-of-the-art building proved to be an ideal location for a successful workshop. More workshops of this kind are slated for the spring.
Erin Lyman is an editor and copy writer who resides in Bel Air with her husband and children. Molly McGuirk Balint is a social media coach, specializing in ag-based businesses, and lives on a farm in Churchville with her husband and children.
